& POLICIES

HOW WE WORK, AND WHO WE CHOOSE TO WORK ALONGSIDE, IS AT THE VERY HEART OF OUR PROJECT EARTH COMMITMENT TO CHANGE THE WAY WE SHOP.

By working with our partners, as well as our team members and customers, together we can imagine and create a sustainable future for retail.

OUR PARTNERS

At Selfridges, we believe in the power of dynamic synergies – exciting partnerships with those who share our values and can support us to make a difference. By working alongside our group of expert partners on Project Earth, we can continue to learn and innovate to achieve our ambitions.

AGE UK

Our partnership with Age UK sees Selfridges team members support branches in close reach of our four stores by volunteering to match their skills with opportunities in Age UK retail outlets.

CENTREPOINT

We have worked closely with youth homelessness charity Centrepoint for over 10 years, becoming one of their most successful corporate partnerships. This partnership is driven by committed Selfridges team members, one of whom has attended the Centrepoint Sleep Out for five years in a row.

Trees are one of nature’s most powerful weapons for tackling the climate and nature crisis facing us all. By helping us to get more trees in the ground and protecting those we already have, Selfridges is working towards a more sustainable future for people and wildlife in the UK.

HUMANE SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL/UK, LONDON

A critical partner who supports our belief that wild animals should not be killed solely for the purpose of fashion and clothing accessories. Humane Society International provides vital expertise to guide our ambitions and commitments, such as the phase-out of fur and, most recently, exotic skins.

POSITIVE LUXURY

Allies in the mission to bring sustainability into the luxury sector's customer journey, Selfridges partners with Positive Luxury to help highlight brands with sustainability and responsibility at their core. Positive Luxury’s Butterfly Mark is awarded to purpose-driven brands that demonstrate their positive social and environmental impact.

SEDEX

Early in 2014, Selfridges became members of SEDEX, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving transparency and visibility in global supply chains.

We’re immensely proud of Project Ocean, our long-term partnership with Selfridges. Together we’ve combined science and conservation with retail activism to tackle some of the biggest challenges our ocean faces. Without Project Ocean, we wouldn’t have launched our #OneLess campaign, targeting ocean plastic pollution at source, which has so far helped to remove 4.4 million single-use plastic water bottles from circulation in London.

SHOUT

Shout is a UK-wide, 24/7 text-based support service for anyone in a mental health crisis, powered by a team of volunteers. Selfridges employees can use their paid volunteering days to work towards becoming a Shout volunteer.

STRONGER TOGETHER

In 2018, Selfridges became a project sponsor for Stronger Together - a business-led, multi-stakeholder, collaborative initiative that supports organisations in tackling modern slavery within their businesses and supply chains. Stronger Together provides guidance, resources and training to help employers and labour providers deter, detect and appropriately deal with forced labour, human trafficking and other hidden labour exploitation.

SUSTAINABLE APPAREL COALITION

In January 2019, Selfridges Group became members of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the apparel, footwear, and textile industry’s leading alliance for sustainable production. The Coalition develops the Higg Index, a standardised value chain measurement suite of tools for all industry participants, with the aim to drive social and environmental improvements at scale.

I have been fortunate enough to have attended several beach cleans over the years. They have been so eye-opening to many issues that I was not aware of and sharing these experiences with other like-minded colleagues really made me proud to work at Selfridges.

Luke Breton, from the Selfridges Green Warrior community

THE WOODLAND TRUST

Selfridges partners with the Woodland Trust on its mission to plant, protect and restore native woods and trees across the UK in the fight against climate change.

WWF

A critical friend and partner in raising awareness that we all depend on a healthy living planet.

ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON

Zoological Society of London has been a partner of Selfridges since 2009. In 2011, together we formed Project Ocean, our commitment to marine conservation and preventing ocean plastic pollution.

OUR POLICIES

At Selfridges, we strive to ensure that all those who work with our business recognise and adhere to our policies so that together we can minimise our impact on the environment whilst creating positive change for society.

ETHICAL TRADE REQUIREMENTS

Our Ethical Trade Requirements set out the core principles which all suppliers that work in partnership with Selfridges must comply with. They are a compulsory part of the terms and conditions of trading with Selfridges. We want to ensure that products sold by Selfridges are produced in an ethical manner, under humane working conditions, with respect for workers and their human rights, that animals are treated and transported humanely and that suppliers minimise their impact on environment.

MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT

There are millions of victims of modern slavery worldwide and this goes completely against our belief in respecting people and their importance to our local and global communities. At Selfridges, our approach to tackling modern slavery in our business and supply chain has been embedded within our sustainability programme. We remain committed to helping ensure everyone who works for or with us as an employee, on our sites or in our supply chain is respected, protected and is able to access support should they need it.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

We understand that using natural resources wisely will help us build a truly sustainable business, and that by working with our team members, partners, customers and communities we can take action to help protect our environment.
