The Beauty Insider:

master the ultimate glow with Hourglass

Hourglass, as the name suggests, is code in the beauty fraternity for make-up that knows how to turn time on its head; whose entire reason for being is to give complexions a natural lit-from-within glow that seems to defy age. And who doesn’t need a bit of that in their lives? Here, we give you six simple steps to getting the trademark Hourglass glow. Go forth and shine.

Prepare the canvas with a primer

Creating a smooth base not only allows make-up to sit better on the face but it maximises its staying power too. This Veil Mineral Primer has a quick-absorbing, oil-free texture that melts delicately into the skin – and true to its name, is light as a feather. Just five extra seconds to your routine creates a difference that lasts an entire day.

It’s all about the base

We’re all in fear of flat, one-dimensional foundations; but Immaculate’s liquid-to-powder formula keeps skin glowing while simultaneously absorbing oil too. Using circular strokes, apply and buff two drops onto the skin, starting in the centre of the face and working out. Tip: it’s best to work in small sections, as the foundation transforms from liquid to powder as you blend.

Get ready to glow

Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Palette, which contains all three of the brand’s bestselling lighting powders (Dim Light, Radiant Light and Incandescent Strobe Light), has an in-built light-diffusing technology that helps give flat complexions a luminescent glow. First, dust Dim Light all over the complexion to soften imperfections. Next, apply Radiant Light as a contour, under the cheekbones, on the temples and on either side of the nose. And then finally, finish off with a light dusting of Incandescent Strobe Light on the tops of the cheekbones and under the brow for even more glow.

Bye-bye bothersome blemishes

A foundation and concealer in one, this wonder stick boasts the coverage of a concealer (the formula contains double the amount of pigment versus traditional foundations), the fluidity of a liquid, and the weightlessness of a powder. Dot around the nose, under the eye and on any pesky blemish you need some extra help to hide, and blend with the Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush.

Add an extra pop of pink

The genius behind a marbled blush such as these is that with one sweep you capture the illuminating effect of the Ambient Lighting Powder combined with a fresh pigmented flush. Swirl your brush across the entire compact for maximum impact and apply to the apples of your cheeks, sweeping back towards the temples.

And now for the finale: why the eyes have it

With your complexion glowing and your face primed, there’s one final but oh-so important step. Hourglass eye palettes are celebrated for their highly –pigmented, wearable shades – and when it’s so hard to choose just one, opting for a five-shade palette gives so many more strings to your make-up bow and will add a fitting end to the Hourglass journey. Use the plummy mauve on the lid, the ivory on the brow bone, and the more smouldering gunmetal or black violet as a smudgy liner, then finish off with the Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara, and you’re good to glow.
